B/w silver/gelatine on baryte photograph of Pia Arke’s mother, Birgitte Justine Piparajik Arqe, appropriated from Danish telegraphist Sven Lund Jensen’s photo album with b/ w photographs taken during his 1946-47 travel to and stay in Scoresbysund/Ittoqqortoormiit.
(This same image was used as an illustration on the title page of the first edition of ‘Etnoæstetik’ by ARK in 1995. In this instance the image is mirrored, and even though the image dates to 1947 the caption reads: “Scoresbysund 1948”.)
