Press release accompanying Pia Arke’s first solo exhibition De Daglige Handlinger on view in Rådskælderen, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, June 7 – 21, 1989.

Press Release

Pia Arke was born in 1958 in Cape Tobin, East Greenland. After having attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ undergraduate program for two years, she holds her first solo exhibition in the period June 7 – 21, 1989.

Content of the exhibition :

I am and live my life. The daily actions sharpen my senses and make me part of the greater community. In an experiment, I devote myself to the daily actions. Concentrate on the moment in itself freed of goals and contexts. I try to be in the everyday act, fully and entirely – I want to be one with the space that surrounds me. The function of the exhibition is to show my life with its daily actions. An accompanying photographer has registered the events in a long, unbroken series of snapshots. The photos are taken ‘from outside’ and in a constant stream, which has made the actual documentation process secondary and distant in the actual situation. The photographs are shown as an unbroken series (a long strip) in a 10 x 15 cm format, as a totally unedited representation of a series of actions.
