Landfall I-III (Landkending)

Panoramic series of 3 x b/w photographs of Bylot Sound (left), Saunders Island (center), and Mount Dundas (right), Thule, with pasted paper clippings of the letters ‘A,’ ‘B.’ and ‘C’ in white frames with pencil annotations featuring three different excerpts from Dan Laursen’s book The Place Names of North Greenland, Copenhagen: C. A. Reitzel Publisher, 1972 (Meddelelser om Grønland / Monographs on Greenland, vol. 180, no. 2)

The photographs were taken during Pia Arke’s 1993 visit to Thule. The pasted paper clippings, frames, and annotations were added in spring 2003 prior to the opening of her solo show Scoresbysundhistorier – retrospektivt [Stories from Scoresbysund – In Retrospective], Møstings Hus, Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, April 26 – May 18, 2003, during which time Arke got different people passing by to write the text on the frames
